Cultural Capital Fund – Schools

To encourage schools to prioritise and provide more arts activities for their pupils we are pleased to offer our Cultural Capital Fund. This exciting and innovative Fund is exclusive to schools and Arts organisations only. It is designed to ensure that access to high quality Arts activities, delivered by the best Arts practitioners, are accessible to all children across the Charity’s Beneficial Area. Activities should be planned and delivered as face-to-face experiences; applications for virtual or online delivery are not suitable for this Fund. Please also be aware that there is limited funding for this particular Grant Fund.

Eligibility

State schools (primary, secondary or special) or nurseries (including registered charities) that are based in the Charity’s Beneficial Area are eligible to apply to this Fund. Please note that privately run nurseries are not eligible for this Fund.
Individual schools can apply to work with one or more Arts organisation that they have identified themselves.

Funding Guidelines

Applications made by schools can work with an Arts organisation based in London. The Arts organisation does NOT need to previously have been funded by John Lyon’s Charity. For more information about the funding available and guidelines for Arts Organisations, please click here. Please note that therapy activities that use arts and music are not eligible.
This Fund does not contribute towards school staff costs.
Applications can be made to work with an Arts organisation based in London but not individual practitioners.
Activities can include trips, coach costs or workshop costs.
Suitable Arts activities include:
- Trips to the theatre (Drama / dance)
- Visits to Art galleries or museums
- Workshops delivered by established Arts institutions in London e.g. museums, galleries, theatres etc.

Applications should demonstrate how the arts activities fit with the curriculum throughout the school term.

How much can you apply for?

Grants of up to £5,000 per school are available.

There is a single stage application process with an application available from the Grants Portal on our website.

The Cultural Capital Fund is only for schools based in the Beneficial Area. Eligible schools must select “Schools” from the drop-down menu to access the correct application form.

We encourage you to think carefully about the activity you would like to do and have firm ideas of dates and costings before you apply. There is a rolling application process with no deadlines.  You should apply to us at least ten weeks before your planned activity to give us time to process your application.
